I see great design

Hi I'm Jess Lewis of Jess lewis Creative (JLC). This is my blog of great design I find around Adelaide where I live and beyond. Enjoy!

A few pics of some street art.

The image of the block heads is from a now internationally renown Adelaideian street artist Peter Drew I think it is really sweet! I really love Peter’s work he manages to liven Adelaide up with only a few iconic images or text.

The second pic is a nice piece from a typographic wonder Ankles, a local street artist. Ankle’s work can be seen all over the city, you may also recognise his Raw hide work. As a typo geek I am in love with his wonderful hand drawn typo.

I see great design, and street art!

Having a drink at the Wheatshief hotel trying some boutique beers. I love the design of this porter beer from Japan. Lovely kerning and wonderful Japanese style. Nice drink too.

I started Uni today yay! Back for another 1.5 years of study to knock of a Bachelor of Design Visual Communication, heaps of confusion but lots of fun so far.

I found this beautiful poster whilst waiting for an elevator to go to a class that wasn’t on this week. Well at least it wasn’t a complete waste of time.

Well folks its been a while between posting. Its festival season and I am out and about all the time but alas have only been really impressed with one lovely piece of design so far. I’m sure their are many more post-able works out there I just haven’t come across them yet (gosh I hope so).
This little post card promo is design taken from the Adelaide Festival and what a wonderful eye catching thing it is. With its beautiful use of colour and hierarchy it makes me think “who is this Van Dyke Parks guy and why do I now want to see him over Daniel Johns and Kimbra?” Sorry to the Van Dyke Parks fans I have never heard of him. But the important thing is that because of this image I now want to know so its doing its job.
The campaign for all the Festivals shows has translated very well to TV spots as well.
I have done a bit of research and discovered that Mash studio art directed the festivals design last year along with Design lab doing the layout so the new design could have been done once again by these guys but I couldn’t see much info on it.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled and post again soon.

This dress stopped me in my tracks today it is so incredibly brilliant! It was in the window front of a boutique fashion store called workshop on Hindley street right next to the reading room. The guys and girls in there make all of the clothes in store, very talented bunch.

10/10 for originality.

Happy New Year.

Attitude magazine is a free monthly produced street mag that focuses on street culture and fashion in Adelaide. This months cover is pretty hard to ignore with its fantastic photography, makeup/hair design and stand out colour.

It makes it clear just how much impact symmetry can have. Some designers can’t stand symmetry but I believe it has its place.

A menu from Cibo espresso coffee house on Rundle street. The stock of the card is beautiful and has a soft sheen in the light. The circle cut away from a vintage-esque Image reveals “Osole Mio” translating to my sunshine. I really love the typographic style.

I see great design.

Every now and again I stumble across a design that brings up so much nostalgia. I don’t know what it is about this freezer I spotted, it just has a rustic glow. A beautifully presented memory hidden away in the back streets of Adelaide. I see great design.

A brochure I picked up at the pub for Melbourne music week. Eye catching and clean design, unfortunately I could not see a design studio or name. Lovely stuff! I see great design. me

A stunning booklet by Voice studios for the 2013 season of the State theatre company of South Australia. Brilliant typography coupled with a clean layout and great photography by Kris Washusen.
